4. Formidable front-line fighter

The Eugene we knew prior to the conflict with the Saviors was a genuine coward in most instances. The first selfless act we see from him is when he saves an injured Tara when Glenn, Noah and Nicholas try to save Aiden. Following this he is timid when it comes to fighting walkers until the battle of Alexandria when he and the majority of able-bodied fighters in the community came together to rid their home of the invading horde of walkers.

After saving most of his friends by sabotaging the munitions production during All Out War with the Saviors, he became better and better with time. The last major development with Eugene is shown, just prior to the 6 year time jump, aiding Rick with the construction plans of their major bridge, which is sadly blown up by Rick to save everyone.

Post time jump, Eugene is shown front and center taking out a group of walkers by himself which is a significant amount of growth for him considering his past. Season 10 is no different in that he has shown even more growth with his ability to dispatch walkers being well within his skill set as demonstrated during their nearly 49 hour walker wave onslaught from the Whisperers.

He fights alongside Rosita throughout the entirety of his “fighting shifts” and even refuses a break when she jokes with him that he can take one if he wants to. The next great example of this is when the Hilltop is under siege and he is once again, right up on the front-lines with Rosita fighting tooth and nail to hold off the walkers and Whisperers as long as possible.

Though their efforts appear to be futile, they hold them off long enough to take out a sizable number of walkers and Whisperers. They have proven to their foes that they will not go down without a fight.
