1. Looking for love and longevity

Following Eugene distancing himself from Rosita, his “proverbial BFF”, he lost a companion and a connection. This weighs on him as we see with his emphatic attempts to connect to someone far away through the newly boosted radio communications system at Hilltop. He does talk to Rosita from time to time, but with a new focus in mind.

When he does connect to a new person on the radio he is quick to make a connection and a friend but also very cautious as to not reveal too much sensitive information about the communities, his friends and family. This woman on the radio claims her name is “Stephanie” and that she is actually fairly close as learned by the shared sighting of the crashing satellite.

She is initially scared away by Rosita answering her on the radio following a pact between Eugene and herself to keep things to themselves. After an incredible vocal performance by Eugene over the radio prior to their battle, she finally responds back with the next verse and they quickly rekindle their friendship.

Stephanie appears discouraged by the sound of another woman on the radio that Eugene seems to fancy, but he reveals to Stephanie that Rosita is just his “proverbial BFF” and that seems to perk her back up. They set a date and location to meet and potentially help one another out which motivates Eugene to journey outside his normal comfort zone to a new place.

With the help of Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess, another new ally found on this journey, they’re on their way to make this meeting and, hopefully, gain a new and powerful ally that can aid them in finishing this war with the Whisperers once and for all.

Meeting Stephanie as well as the journey to get to her will hopefully introduce us to a long overdue love interest for Eugene. It’s not too far fetched to assume they have a connection given the mutual flirting over the radio. This would be a nice change of pace and much deserved gift for Eugene at this point.

Throughout season 10, Eugene has been on quite the roller coaster of a journey alongside his friends, but has shown a significant amount of growth in multiple ways worth noting. He began the season still madly in love with Rosita by taking care of Coco for her, Siddiq and Gabriel while they all had their own responsibilities or troubles.

He continues to impress others with his extensive knowledge of construction and technology with the radio communication systems, as well as setting traps for the Whisperers to slow them down and hopefully kill some of them.

Ultimately, he grew as a person, man and fighter by volunteering to be on the front-lines, again with Rosita, to defend the community and hopefully prove himself to her. Though he learns later that this is not a good use of his time, he doesn’t lose the will to fight when the Whisperers invade Hilltop.

He is right back on the front-lines with Rosita with no ulterior motives other than to survive the night and fight in order to make his date with Stephanie and hopefully gain another communal ally to aid in their final stand. A new group in this dire time of need could drastically change everything if their cards are played right.
