1. Alpha Transcends

Season 10, episode 10 “Stalker”

“Stalker” was really one of Alpha’s finest episodes. Her brutal fight with Daryl finally managed to pierce Daryl’s plot armor and he actually got seriously hurt. It makes a lot of sense that Alpha was the only one tough enough to actually hurt Daryl Dixon. But it was what happened after she tracked an injured Daryl to an old car repair shop that made this such an amazing episode for her. Alpha has a running monologue with herself, and with Daryl, when she has him pinned down in the shop. But he managed to seriously injure her too and she’s wavering between delirium and clarity throughout much of the episode.

When Lydia finds her viewers see the humanity in Alpha come out again. At first she is confident that Lydia has returned to her in order to take over leadership and continue what she has built. She knows she is seriously wounded and tells Lydia to kill her and take the leader position for herself. But Lydia rejects that life and rejects Alpha. Then Alpha breaks, worn down by pain and anguish. When Lydia leaves her to save Daryl Alpha succumbs to her injuries and passes out. But when she comes to it’s like she is born again and has finally transcended to the animal she claimed to be. She’s reborn in blood and pain and arises stronger, colder, and fiercer than ever.

She has no humanity left. She’s living for one thing now and that’s to destroy the communities and prove that her way is the best way to survive in that world. Lydia is now truly dead to her along with her last tie to humanity or empathy. It’s like watching evolution happen in real time.

Samantha Morton’s performance is staggering, and really encapsulates the core of who Alpha is and what her journey has been. Alpha may be gone, but she changed the narrative of the show forever and the Whisperers arc was truly amazing.
