Netflix releases first look at Cursed with Daniel Sharman
Fear the Walking Dead alum Daniel Sharman steps into the world of Arthurian legend with Cursed, a re-imagining of the classic story with a new twist.
Daniel Sharman fans rejoice – the talented actor is coming to Netflix this summer in a brand new series that puts a fresh spin on the classic tale of the legend of King Arthur. In Cursed, young Nimue (Katherine Langford) blazes her own trail, becoming a symbol to people looking for hope and courage in the face of impossible odds.
Cursed launches in Summer 2020 on streaming giant Netflix, with 10 one-hour episodes. The story is based on a book by Tom Wheeler and Frank Miller, with Wheeler at the helm as showrunner and executive producer. Miller and Leila Gerstein also serve as executive producers.
From Netflix:
"Based on the New York Times bestselling book, Cursed is a re-imagination of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young woman with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. Cursed is a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible."
The cast features a who’s who of talent: Katherine Langford (Nimue), Devon Terrell (Arthur), Gustaf Skarsgard (Merlin), Daniel Sharman (Weeping Monk), Sebastian Armesto (King Uther Pendragon), Matt Stokoe (Gawain), Lily Newmark (Pym), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Igraine), Emily Coates (Sister Iris), Billy Jenkins (Squirrel), Bella Dayne (Red Spear) and Peter Mullan (Father Carden).
Fear the Walking Dead fans came to love Sharman as Troy Otto, son of evil Jeremiah Otto, patriarch and leader of Broke Jaw Ranch in season 3. Troy was a troubled young man who was trying to figure out his place in a world that had been turned upside down. He was cruel and sadistic, but Madison saw that he was also a youth who grew up with an abusive father as his role model after losing his mother. Madison used her influence to gain favor with Troy, but ultimately she was the one who ended him when it looked like he could put her family in danger.
Sharman delighted fans with his intense performances, and many fans lament that his time on the show was cut short. He would have made for an interesting companion in seasons 4 and 5, and he’d make a fantastic adversary for Virginia in season 6.
Cursed premieres this summer on Netflix.
