Lori

Despite her marital troubles with Rick, there was never a question about Lori’s dedication to Carl and her unborn child. Lori gave everything to her son and baby, even giving up her life to save the life of her unborn child. Her final act as a mother was to give birth to her daughter, making sure that her child was okay before losing her life.

Lori left a lasting impression on Carl, who was forced to kill his mom to keep her from turning. Carl wasn’t aware of the trouble between Rick and Lori, and we’ll never know how much he knew about Lori and Shane and the fact that his sister was actually Shane’s daughter.

In the end, though, none of that matters. In a world where life can be extinguished in the blink of an eye, bygones can be bygones. When it comes to being a great mom, there’s no question that Lori raised her son right.

Carol

When fans meet Carol in season 1 of The Walking Dead, she was meek and quiet and very much under the control of her jerk of a husband. Once Ed was dead, though, Carol’s true colors came out and she blossomed into the badass fans know today.

But before she became the fighter we know and love, she was Sophia’s mom, and when Sophia went missing, it was all she could do to keep things together. Carol’s entire life became a quest to find Sophia, and when she discovered the truth about her daughter’s fate it galvanized her into the person she is in season 10. She took all of that pain and rage and channeled it into something bigger.

Over the years, Carol became a mother figure to several children, from Mika and Lizzie to Sam to Henry. Unfortunately, her adopted children haven’t fared well, but she still fights to see better days. Despite her losses, Carol continues to fight.
