The Walking Dead season 10 finale could arrive soon under new California guidelines.

Though The Walking Dead films in Georgia, post-production work takes place in Los Angeles and that’s why the season 10 finale was delayed back in April. With new guidelines forthcoming from Governor Gavin Newsom, production could resume sooner than expected, with a catch.

As California makes progress in the fight against novel coronavirus, Governor Newsom is putting forth guidelines to allow some industries to get back to work. On Wednesday, he addressed the entertainment industry and announced that details would be forthcoming about how studios could get back to work as soon as the last week of May.

The new guidelines will be formally announced on Monday, and they include details of how studios might be able to move directly into his phase four blueprint for reopening. Newsom appeared with director Ava DuVernay, Tom Steyer, Ted Saradnos and John Huertas.

This could be good news for The Walking Dead fans who have been eagerly anticipating the season 10 finale, as the final episode of the season was very close to being completed before work shut down.

However, this news does not guarantee that work will resume. Though the exact details have not been announced, they are based on the idea that studios will be able to meet those guidelines and that the crew is willing to work under those guidelines.

DuVernay noted that she is very aware of the need for her crew to get back to work. Huertas indicated that This Is Us showrunner Dan Fogelman has said that production might not resume until January 2021 to ensure that no one is exposed to a potential second wave of the illness in the fall.

What this means is that the door to finish The Walking Dead 1016 could open as soon as next week, but whether work will begin is still a waiting game. If nothing else, showrunners might rush to finish the episode so that they can focus on World Beyond and Fear the Walking Dead to ensure that there is adequate content for fans throughout the remainder of the year.
