Prodigal Son star Tom Payne shares must-haves for your at-home workouts.

Actor Tom Payne has had to make many adjustments to his professional as well as his personal life due to Los Angeles’ safer-at-home orders.  He was working on the filming of his latest project Prodigal Son, but that had halted during the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, Warner Brothers decided to make the season finale episode 20 instead of the planned episode 22 since filming had to be cut short. Then on May 21, to the delight of its fans, the series was renewed for a second season.

Payne takes a serious approach to keeping healthy and has been working out with his friend and trainer Tom Fitzgerald for over three years. They have gotten creative during the shuts downs and have taken their workouts virtual.

Fitzgerald has said that he is surprised at how many of his clients have been willing to continue their workouts virtually. Payne’s and his fiance also purchased bikes for them to use to replace a day days workout with a bike ride around Los Angeles. He has added a weight bench, medicine balls, Olympic Rings, and a BOB fighting doll to his at-home equipment to continue his workouts at home.

Payne and Fitzgerald started training together when Payne portrayed Jesus on The Walking Dead.  Payne’s character was highly skilled in martial arts, which required Payne to have the lean, muscular look of someone who really knew their stuff.  Fitzgerald tailored the workouts to help with the building of that character.

Sadly, Payne’s character, Jesus, was killed off on The Walking Dead in season 9 but fans are sure to enjoy his portrayal of Malcolm Bright on Fox’s Prodigal Son.  Below is the season 2 teaser that Payne shared on his Instagram.

Payne has made a smooth transition from his work on The Walking Dead to his work on Prodigal Son. It is always great to keep up on the projects that former cast members of The Walking Dead go on to do after their time on the series.
