The Walking Dead’s Samantha Morton is nominated for a BAFTA award.

Samantha Morton has been nominated for a Leading Actress BAFTA TV award. The Walking Dead’s standout villain not only starred in I Am… Kirsty, one installment of the critically acclaimed three-episode series, but she also served as a co-writer.

I Am… Kirsty is one of three films in the series (the other two are I Am… Hannah and I Am… Nicola) the story of a woman named Kirsty who is doing everything she can to provide for her two daughters, and along the way she makes some very important discoveries about life, and men. The men in her life only cause her more pain and frustration, leading her to become increasingly desperate.

The story highlights many of the struggles faced by women of all backgrounds, and particularly underrepresented women, in the UK. Morton herself spent time in foster care as a child, so she understands these struggles firsthand.

Due to the impact of novel coronavirus in the United Kingdom, BAFTA nominations were delayed  until now. The BAFTA TV awards were originally scheduled for May 17, but the ceremony has been pushed back to July 31 and will now feature a virtual format with Richard Ayoade as the host. This new virtual format will provide an interesting glimpse into the future of award shows all over the world as the entertainment industry tries to establish a new normal.

The Walking Dead fans said goodbye to Morton’s Alpha in season 10 after Negan earned her trust and then killed her. Though Alpha was by far one of the most ruthless villains on the show to date, Morton’s performance was utterly captivating and many fans enjoyed seeing Morton go all in on her portrayal of the iconic leader of the Whisperers.
