The Walking Dead star Josh McDermitt celebrates his birthday

Happy birthday wishes go out to The Walking Dead star Josh McDermitt.

June 4 is Josh McDermitt’s birthday and birthday wishes poured in from across The Walking Dead Universe. McDermitt, who plays Dr. Eugene Porter, has long been a fan favorite because of his hilarious phrases and everyman take on the zombie apocalypse.

The Arizona native made an appearance on Last Comic Standing in 2006, which makes all the sense in the world because he is a very funny guy. McDermitt’s sense of humor certainly shines through in Dr. Eugene Porter, who wields humor like a shield from all of the terrible things happening around them.

McDermitt debuted on The Walking Dead back in 2014 in the season 4 episode “Inmates.” At the time, Dr. Eugene Porter was thought to hold the key to curing the walkers and stopping the apocalypse, but after a while the truth is revealed and he is forced to come to terms with the fact that he lied in order to stay safe.

Fast forward to season 10, and Eugene has found himself a trusted and valued member of the group. After resolving his issues with Rosita, he found a place for himself at Hilltop. His technical knowledge – heck, his knowledge in general – has come in handy on many occasions. He was able to convert parts from the Russian satellite into a communications system that allowed Hilltop to reach out to the other communities, and by the end of the season he was on a mission to make contact with Stephanie, his mysterious radio friend from an as-yet undiscovered community.

Of course, Eugene’s fate heading into the season 10 finale is uncertain. No one is safe these days, and even though he is out on the road with Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess doesn’t mean that disaster couldn’t strike at any moment.

For now, though, we wish Josh McDermitt a very happy birthday and hope that he gets to enjoy lots of candy…because we know Eugene loves his candy…
