The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Don’t rely on miracles
By Liam O'Leary
2) Have an escape plan.
Speaking of a place you can easily escape, knowing how you’re going to get out of a place is just as important as choosing a good to hide out in. It can, literally, be difference between being trapped and killed, and escaping to fight another day.
I mean, just think back to the tower the alliance had crammed itself into. What in the blue Hell are they going to do if Beta’s army takes the first two floors of that miserable thing? Jump out the windows?! Yeah, fat lot of good that will do for them as they wind up crowdsurfing on a horde of zombies a thousand strong! Did nobody think that that place was a bad idea when they were coming up with hideouts? Did nobody think to have an escape plan in case what ended up happening happened?!
You see, the moment you find a place in the zombie apocalypse, whether as a base or simply a place to make a stand against an enemy, that is one of the first things you need to do. You need to know the best route to escape by, and then the next best one, in case that first one gets blocked (Like, by a horde of zombies led by a seven foot tall crazy man, for example), and then, the next best one after that, and so on and so forth.
This is especially important if you couldn’t follow the advice I provided in the previous entry, for whatever reason. If you’re in a place that’s a relative deathtrap, you better make sure that it doesn’t become your tomb, by finding (Or, if possible, making) a way to get out of there without getting swarmed by the zombies or hostiles or whatever is out to get you.
If you’re not coming up with an escape plan, the only person who gets hurt by it…is you.
