After 10 seasons, The Walking Dead offers lessons for a lifetime

The Walking Dead has given up 10 seasons of entertainment but it has also reaffirmed a few life lessons that can benefit every day life. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s the need to take stock of whats important to us: Caring for others, the power of forgiveness, being prepared, moving beyond what we were and family being more than a blood tie.

Each life lesson can give us a strength to face the challenges before us.

Caring For Our Most Vulnerable

Whether it was Morgan and Duane saving Rick, the dignity of choosing their fate like Andrea and Jim  or the care given to Hershel after his amputation, the show has shown the importance of caring for those most vulnerable. A perfect example is the episode “Vatos” in season 1. Guillermo and Phillipe stay behind to care for the seniors while everyone else left.

Over the course of the show we have also seen the care and sacrifices given to protect the children, especially Judith and Carl. Sometimes those steps took bloody or heartbreaking turns (Shane killing Otis and Carol having to kill Lizzie to save Judith) but we’ve also seen the love given to “found” children like baby Adam and baby Grace.

Many cultures in the world place an emphasis on caring for the elderly, the young and those who are unable to care for themselves. To see that same care taken on the show has highlighted there are some traditions worth fighting for.
