The Walking Dead: World Beyond was pushed to the fall but could debut at SDCC

Before it was cancelled, The Walking Dead: World Beyond was supposed to be one of the big AMC highlights of WonderCon 2020. The show’s premiere was set for the same night as The Walking Dead season 10 finale, but when WonderCon was cancelled and COVID-19 shut down production, World Beyond’s premiere was pushed to the fall. Could SDCC at Home offer a chance for fans to meet the cast?

World Beyond was slated for a world premiere of the show’s pilot episode as well as a cast panel during WonderCon, but everything changed when Anaheim’s premiere pop culture convention was cancelled. Now that the show is scheduled to premiere this fall, SDCC at Home, which takes place July 22-26, could offer a new opportunity to introduce the cast and the show to the TWD Family.

The reality, unfortunately, is that no matter what happens between now and June, the likelihood of having any footage from The Walking Dead season 11 is slim to none. Hopefully the season 10 premiere will have before July 22, but even that is looking fuzzy as Los Angeles experiences a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Fear the Walking Dead is a very likely candidate to have a strong showing at SDCC at Home because the show’s sixth season is set to premiere this summer. Why not capitalize on the buzz with a kick-off at the convention ahead of the show’s season premiere?

World Beyond could play off of Fear TWD’s energy with a panel to introduce the cast and show some footage from the season. World Beyond has a younger cast but a darker theme, which some TWD fans will find surprising. (I’ve seen the pilot and trust me, this is not a CW version of The Walking Dead!)

Of course, another option for World Beyond is that the show could have a premiere panel during New York Comic Con. As of this writing, there is no word about NYCC and whether it will go forward as planned or not. Given how hard New York was hit with novel coronavirus, coupled with the fact that NYCC’s Javits Center has been a satellite treatment facility for the sick, makes it hard to picture a convention moving into the space anytime soon.

SDCC at Home would be a great place to start building the buzz again for World Beyond. With so much happening in the world, World Beyond has gotten lost in the shuffle and it could really have a big welcome at SDCC with a massive audience of new fans.
