Recent tweets lead to speculation about a sequel to Death Stranding

2019 was an amazing year for video games, featuring some ground-breaking experiences for players around the world. Among those games was Death Stranding, directed by legendary figure Hideo Kojima and starring Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guillermo del Toro, among others. With such an impressive leading cast and an innovative story, the game has players clamoring for a sequel, leading fans to analyze some recent tweets by Kojima.

In Death Stranding, Reedus, best known for his role as the fearless survivor Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead, portrays Sam Porter Bridges, a “porter” who is called upon to help reconnect the United States after the decimation known as the “Death Stranding”. Reedus’ performance was acclaimed by critics, leading him to be nominated for quite a few awards, including Best Performance at the 2019 Game Awards.

The game was a success for both fans and critics alike, with many lauding the game’s originality and unique story. Led by famous game director Hideo Kojima, there were high expectations for Death Stranding, and it seemed to deliver. The game was nominated for many Game of the Year awards at the end of 2019 in recognition of its impressive storytelling and technical achievements. It’s safe to say that Death Stranding was a fan-favorite that left players wanting a sequel.

The following tweets led to some intense analysis from fans hoping for any hints about future games set in the Death Stranding universe:

While this first tweet doesn’t reveal a whole lot outside of Kojima’s work process, it was an intentional choice to include a reference to Death Stranding with the model of a “Bridge baby.” Even if this was just something placed there for aesthetic purposes, Kojima clearly wants fans to keep the hit game from 2019 on their minds.

This second tweet is a little more revealing when it comes to hints about a sequel, although you do really have to search to find the evidence here.

If you look closely at the concept art of the spaceship, you can see that the word “BRIDGES” is written on the side of it. This caused fans to speculate whether the ship could be a link to a possible Death Stranding sequel. Bridges is, after all, both the last name of Reedus’ character and the name of the company he works for in the game.

While the tweets are certainly far from any confirmation of future plans for another Death Stranding game, it is still fun to speculate on what the future could hold. After the first game’s positive reception by both fans and critics, it would not be a surprise to see Kojima bring Reedus back for a sequel of some sort. It’s worth noting, however, that no sequel would be released for a few years at the very least, likely on the recently announced PlayStation 5. For now, all we can do is speculate and wait for official confirmation from Kojima and PlayStation.
