3. Watchmen (2009)

The Walking Dead wasn’t the first comic adaptation where Jeffrey Dean Morgan got a significant amount of attention. In fact, it was his major big-screen role in Watchmen that turned many who didn’t know who JDM was into fans.

Morgan played the role of The Comedian in the neo-noir superhero flick, a black-ops specialist commissioned by the U.S. government. The character is an interesting one that does some horrible things, yet somehow comes off as somewhat likable in the film.

The performance put forth by JDM in this film likely opened the doors for more acting opportunities on the big screen considering many of his previous projects were on television shows before this.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Watchmen employed a great ensemble cast for the film, including Patrick Wilson, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, and others who were able to take the concept of the popular comic series and make it into a compelling film.
