7. The Burning Zone (1996)

The Burning Zone might be the strangest entry on this list. As a 90s sci-fi series, this show feels like something straight out of the early 80s. It’s like two layers of nostalgia on top of each other, which makes for interesting viewing.

On the show, Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Dr. Edward Marcase, a virologist who had a tough upbringing which included surviving the Ebola virus despite his parents dying from the disease. He devoted his life to preventing and curing the disease.

Marcase’s approach to learning about Ebola is much like how Fox Mulder looked into the supernatural. He didn’t discount any method that could be effective. His obsession with Ebola can be seen everywhere in his everyday life, and seeing it consume him is both honorable and terrifying.

The UPN show will definitely not be for everyone. It does have the feel of a stretched-out made for TV movie. However, with a younger, scruffy Jeffrey Dean Morgan at the helm, it is well worth at least checking out.
