A celebration of George A. Romero is coming to Comic-Con at Home

The godfather of zombies, George A. Romero is responsible for stories that made horror fans squeal in theaters dating back to 1968 with the iconic classic Night of the Living Dead. Now, Comic-Con at Home will present a panel celebrating his life and highlighting the release of his soon to be completed final project, The Living Dead.

Romero’s Night of the Living Dead was the movie that sent fans running from theaters in terror. The idea of the undead coming back to life to wreak havoc on the living was something that has always been the stuff of urban myths and legends, but when they came to life on the big screen it was more than some people could handle. On the other hand, though, it started a lifelong love affair for zombie fans and paved the way for shows and movies like The Walking Dead, World War Z and iZombie.

The Comic-Con at Home panel, titled “The Living Dead: Celebrating the Legacy of George A. Romero”, features writer Daniel Kraus, known for his work with Guillermo del Toro on The Shape of Water. Klaus was approached by Romero’s widow, Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, to finish her late husband’s final work, The Living Dead.

Here’s the panel description from Comic-Con at Home:

"George A. Romero invented the modern zombie with Night of the Living Dead, creating a monster that has become a key part of pop culture. Unfortunately, when he died, his last, epic story was incomplete. Enter Daniel Kraus, co-author, with Guillermo del Toro, of the New York Times bestseller The Shape of Water (based on the same idea the two created for the Academy Award-winning movie) and many other works of horror and suspense. A lifelong Romero fan, Kraus was honored to be asked by Romero’s widow Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, to complete The Living Dead. The Living Dead will be released from Tor in August, but come join Kraus, Desrocher-Romero, and moderator Richard Newby (The Hollywood Reporter) for a sneak peek, as they discuss the book and the legacy of George A. Romero."

“The Living Dead: Celebrating the Legacy of George A. Romero” will take place on Friday, July 24 at 5pm PT. You can access the panel’s YouTube link here and set a reminder for when it airs.

Tor Books is offering a free poster for everyone who pre orders the book through their website. The Living Dead will be available from Tor in August.
