1) Who’s the decapitator?

Near the end of the trailer, we catch a glimpse of a man in a cowboy hat decapitating some red-headed(?) dude with a beard. One would imagine these two characters are of at least some importance, or they wouldn’t have a scene at all, never mind be shown so prominently in the trailer. This begs the question: Who’s the decapitator?

(On a side note: I wish I had a picture of the dude in question, so you could see his face, and we could all speculate together. Alas, that is impossible at this time…)

Okay, his garb suggests he’s a pioneer, as his hat looks a lot like Virginia’s, however, you can’t see a key on his lapel (Though, that may just be because of the darkness of the scene and how fast he’s moving), so, it’s a little up in the air. Also…HE CHOPS ANOTHER DUDE’S HEAD OFF!! We may not have had that much interaction with the Pioneers last season, but…decapitating people? That seems a little far out for them.

The other interesting thing about The Decapitator (For lack of a better name) is that he stuffs his victim’s head in a toolbag. This suggests two things: 1) The man who wound up decapitated was someone that somebody else was looking for, and that his head was being collected as a “proof of death” and 2) If The Decapitator was making a point of collecting beardo’s head in the first place, he’s some kind of “fixer”, someone who was either sent out to find the bearded man, or, he knew that someone was looking for him, and collected his head to get some kind of reward from whoever it was that looking for him in the first place.

Sadly, none of this really answers who The Decapitator is. Is he a new ally? A new villain? Will he join Morgan’s group in trying to overthrow the Pioneers? Or, will he prove to be a threat in the second half of the season, much like Martha in season four? We just don’t know.
