6) Mob mentality.

You might wonder why so many people take part in things like looting and riots when things go bad, well, a lot of times, it comes down to a little quirk of human psychology called “mob mentality”. When a bunch of people, who might not be destructive or violent normally, become so because they’re in a large crowd, and someone makes the first move (I think it also plays a role in mass panic, too, but, I’m not sure).

Sadly, it doesn’t seem like anyone wants to try to tackle this problem in any meaningful way, just exploit it.

What bothers me most is the fact that I know that the people who exploit mob mentality now will do this in a zombie apocalypse, because people are nothing if not opportunistic, and will see the carnage from the outbreak (Even if they don’t understand it) as a chance to do whatever they want.

The thing that is even sadder than the general exploitation of mob mentality, is that the people who do that, their actions will likely deprive other people of much-needed supplies and shelter, and expose them to the dead, at a time when, mentally, they are least likely to be able to deal with them. This will, in turn, mean that they’ll probably be bitten by and become zombies, causing the numbers of the dead to swell, in fact, I’m willing to bet that the initial big swell of the zombie population will likely be the result of this very phenomenon.

You know what’s the saddest thing of all? I honestly do think that, if the people who exploited mob mentality truly grasped how great of a threat zombies were, they might actually use the mob for good, and try to rally people to fight the dead, but, since no one would actually believe zombies if they saw them, that’s just wishful thinking on my part.
