7) SURPRISE! …People are even worse than you thought.

I didn’t want to. I honestly didn’t want to mention people being shitty this week, but, as I was sitting here, I realized why I’ve focused on it so much lately, and why I need to mention it here: I don’t think enough people realize just how awful people can really be, and that makes me think that, in a zombie apocalypse, they will be caught off-guard by it, and, I want to avoid that as much as possible.

Even though it always happens when there’s a disaster, I think people either dismiss it as relatively minor, or something that will be relatively temporary.

…How “temporary” do you think a zombie apocalypse is going to be? If you understand that the apocalypse won’t be temporary, then, don’t you think that opportunists, looters, rioters, and just plain violent people will, too? And, once they do figure that out…what do you think happens next?

Even if you think you know people, they can always get worse. People can always be more violent, more sadistic, more manipulative, more greedy, more soulless, and more cruel than you expect, and, you need to realize that, or else, when the outbreak begins, and the dead start marching, those kinds of people will show you something more frightening than the dead: The depths of human depravity.

I don’t want you getting ambushed by this. I don’t want you to turn around one day, and see a violent mob bearing down on you because they think they’re entitled to. I want you to see the world with clear eyes, and be ready for what’s coming.

I’ve said it a hundred times, and I’ll say it a hundred more: The apocalypse brings out the worst of us, and the worst in us.
