Beta is bound to be a HUGE part of the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead is inching closer to the season 10 finale every day and excitement for the episode is ramping up. Now that Alpha gone, the biggest threat still on the show is her second in command, Beta.

In some ways, Beta is even more terrifying than Alpha. There was a thread of humanity in her and intelligence. In Beta, we have someone on the ragged edge of sanity as he controls a very large horde of walkers and he is fixated on our group of survivors.

You may be asking yourself “What could fans possibly hope for from Beta besides an epic death?”  Honestly, I asked myself that as well and came up with a couple things. So here you go: three things I’d like to see from Beta in the season 10 finale.

A reaction to Lydia in Alpha’s mask

If there was one thing Beta was dedicated to it was his Alpha. He was devoted so much that he grafted part of her face onto his whisperer mask.  Her loss was devastating to him and it seems to have cost him that last bit of sanity he had.  I actually kind of felt sorry for him seeing him with her reanimated head in the last couple of episodes that were shown.  In his own kind of twisted way, he loved her, maybe because in her own twisted way she saved him after she found him.

Knowing that, how would he react to seeing Lydia wearing her mask? Would he think she came back? Would it enrage him? Confuse him?  Hopefully, we get to see his reaction because it could be the key to our group beating him.

The voices in the herd

In the extended cut of the trailer for episode 16, there was an added bit of Beta and the horde. During that clip, there are what sounds like voices responding to Beta. Are they whisperers or is he hallucinating the walkers are actually talking to him?

Hopefully, it is hallucinations because that would add another level of danger to his character. I know, I know…. like the dude that tossed Daryl around like a rag doll needs anything else to make him more dangerous, but think about it for a moment. Characters have had mental breakdowns on the show before, some with heartbreaking consequences (such as “Look at the flowers Lizzie”) but none of those characters had the force behind them to raze the living.

Beta alone is scary, Beta with a 1000 plus walkers is terrifying, Beta with that horde AND the willingness to weaponize them AND the lack of control to truly think clearly is “mind-numbing silent screaming OMG I’M GONNA DIE”  levels of horror. And I’m here for that.

An epic death for beta

Let me start by saying I LOVE Ryan Hurst, I’ve enjoyed his work over the years, and from what I’ve seen of him in interviews, panels, and on social media he is a delightful human. Him admitting he had a crush of Melissa was adorable. Now that’s out of the way, I want Beta to have the most epic death the show has ever had.

The Walking Dead has done an outstanding job with the Whisperer arc and their final ending needs to be handled with the same care. I want to see the rending of flesh by the walkers, I want a team that includes Lydia taking him down, and I want the mask to be ripped off his face with Ryan singing one of Beta’s songs in the background.  (I’m still bitter over Gamma’s death… sorry…. but not really.)

Mostly I don’t want him to get a death that isn’t worthy of the actor or the character. No quick bullet to the head. I want Ryan to have a chance to show off his talent in his final moments.

So there you have it, my wish list for Beta. If you’re gonna have dark characters like the whisperers on The Walking Dead, you might as well go all out and let them do their thing, within allowable parameters.  What would you like to see for Beta? Let me know in the comments.
