AMC has been showing just how dedicated it is to The Walking Dead Universe

While many networks have struggled through the pandemic to create new programming for viewers, AMC looked within and gave shows to two of its most popular actors, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Colman Domingo. They’ve already signed first look deals with Domingo and now Norman Reedus, and there are more shows in The Walking Dead Universe on the way, proving that they’re committed to the shows and the actors.

It’s no big secret that The Walking Dead and Fear TWD feature some incredibly talented actors. Even the new show World Beyond features actors who have done great things, like Nicolas Cantu’s work on Cartoon Network and Hal Cumpston’s role as a writer and producer of a feature film in his late teens.

The fact that these shows have large ensemble casts that aren’t always tied to the set make it so that they can pursue other projects, from Marvel movies to other major motion pictures, theatrical productions and television shows.

AMC signed a first look deal with Colman Domingo earlier this year, and now Norman Reedus has his own deal with the studio so that he can work from his newly launched Bigbaldhead Productions. Greg Nicotero’s Creepshow is about to start production on its second season after a fantastic freshman season on AMC’s horror streaming service Shudder.

AMC is also showing dedication to The Walking Dead franchise that put them on the map by ordering two new spin-offs slated to run after the flagship show comes to an end in 2022. Despite whispers that ratings may be in trouble for TWD, AMC seems to be putting all of their eggs in one basket by adding more shows to help grow their streaming services AMC+ and AMC Premiere.

There’s something to be said about AMC’s commitment to The Walking Dead and the actors within the universe. They know how talented this group is and want to hold on to that talent as much as possible. (It should be noted, of course, that Robert Kirkman signed a deal with Amazon Studios a few years ago)

For fans, it’s a statement. It tells us that AMC knows how much we value these actors and that we want to see more of their work, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s reassuring in these uncertain times to know that we will continue to see their work in the future, and that’s the best news possible.
