The Walking Dead ‘A Certain Doom’ a return to TWD event television
The Walking Dead season 10 finale on October 4 will be a return to event television
Ten years ago when The Walking Dead premiered it quickly became the show to watch on Sunday nights. People planned their weekends around the show so that they were back on the couch in time to see Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors trying to survive in a world full of the undead. The Walking Dead season 10 finale is a chance to return to the same level of event television.
There are two ways to look at the changes in viewership that have taken place over the years: Fans have drifted away from the series (for a variety of reasons) or they don’t watch live anymore. With so many streaming options, it’s hard to get a read on any show’s true ratings anymore.
What we know for sure is that season 9 and 10 of The Walking Dead have lured many fans back to the fold, and the upcoming season 10 finale will be a chance for fans to watch the show together that night the way they did back in the old days.
In addition to the flagship finale, the sixth season of Fear TWD season 6 and the series premiere of World Beyond are also starting up (October 11 and 4, respectively). There are still lots of people who aren’t leaving the house right now amid the persistent threat of the novel coronavirus, and that means Sunday nights will once again belong to The Walking Dead.
AMC is also trying to spur engagement and grow the fan community with the development of their TWDUniverse Channel on Twitch. It’s a place where fans can come together to enjoy original content and watch parties, which will also keep people busy on Sundays.
With so many things happening in the world, a return of The Walking Dead as event television is welcome. We need more things to bring us together, and the show has always been a driving force behind the TWD Family.
