Official trailer for Steven Yeun’s film Minari, the story of an American dream
Fans of The Walking Dead are always on the lookout for new projects by current and previous actors in the series. Steven Yeun, who played fan-favorite Glenn Rhee in seasons one through seven, is starring in a new film called Minari.
Minari premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received rave reviews. Yeun himself received high praise for his depiction of family patriarch Jacob Yi. Jacob moves his family to a farm in Arkansas in the 1980s. Jacob, his wife Monica (Yeri Han), their children David (Alan Kim) and Anne (NOel Kate Cho), along with his mother-in-law Soonja (Yuh-Jung Youn), struggle to acclimate to their new lifestyle.
They are joined by Will Patton, who plays the Yi family’s deeply religious neighbor.
The trailer gives us an honest look at the resilience of an immigrant family working towards their version of the American dream.
Reviews have stated Yeun gives a stellar performance in this film. His character Jacob dreams of being a farmer. His wife isn’t sold on the idea, but she is willing to give it a try. Jacob agrees to bring his wife’s mother from Korea to live with them.
This film focuses more on the inward family turmoil in dealing with a move from California to a farm in Arkansas. It looks to be a very personal depiction of a family just trying to make it.
Yeun has some major competition from Alan Kim, who plays his son David. He is cute and funny, giving the impression he may steal the show. The interaction between David and his grandmother in the trailer is outstanding. Youn does a great job of portraying the grandmother bringing laughter and fun into a somewhat serious drama.
Minari doesn’t have a release date yet, but the hopes are to have it available ahead of the Oscar eligibility date of February 2021.
Be sure to watch for the release date of Minari and check out the performance by Steven Yeun.
