The Walking Dead: World Beyond 101 synopsis and preview
A whole new universe to open up in The Walking Dead: World Beyond 101: “Brave”
The Walking Dead is an iconic franchise known for pushing the limits of the zombie genre and exploring the way people survive against insurmountable odds. AMC’s flagship represents but one story of the many stories taking place all over the world, and in The Walking Dead: World Beyond fans are introduced to a whole new world.
If you haven’t been following the promotions for the newest spin-off in the TWD Universe, the basic concept behind World Beyond is at first glance fairly simple: A group of young people set out into the unknown, leaving behind the safety of their home on a university campus in Nebraska to find one of their parents. Safety, of course, is a relative term. Is anyone ever truly safe in the middle of the zombie apocalypse?
Showrunner Matt Negrete, who worked on The Walking Dead for several seasons, hinted on the Talking Dead TWD Universe Preview Special that World Beyond encompasses and embraces all of the elements that fans love about The Walking Dead and places those core values into a whole new environment.
Here’s the synopsis of the World Beyond pilot:
“Iris welcomes an enigmatic ally to their community while Hope questions the visitor’s motives. A message upends the sisters’ worldview, forcing them to decide between the safety of their home and the uncertainty of the world beyond.”
World Beyond is only set to air for two seasons, and the limited series will have ties to the greater TWD Universe in ways that will be seen in future episodes. From the start, you can see through the trailer that the first link is evident with the appearance of the CRM helicopters that arrive:
You might be hearing a lot of buzz about World Beyond right now given that the show premiered on AMC+ and AMC Premiere on October 1, several days ahead of the network premiere on AMC on October 4. If you’re curious as to whether or not the show is for you, allow me to suggest that you watch the pilot episode. You will either love it immediately or decide it’s not for you, but thus far the show has hooked a lot of viewers with its surprisingly dark themes and ties to The Walking Dead and, possibly, Rick Grimes.
World Beyond premieres on AMC on Sunday, October 4 at 10pm, immediately following The Walking Dead season 10 finale. Talking Dead follows immediately afterwards, and fans can watch together on the new TWDUniverse channel on Twitch during the watch party.
