The Walking Dead 1016: Who is the masked character with Maggie?
By Joe LaBrosse
We learned more about the mysterious masked figure in the season 10 finale
One of the more epic moments in the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead was when Father Gabriel seemed moments away from death at the hands of the Whisperers breaking into the abandoned hospital. Right as they were about to deal the final blow, a mysterious masked character suddenly jumped in and saved the day, slicing up the Whisperer foes alongside Maggie.
We then see Aaron give a funny and confused look to the masked person in a move that was basically the same reaction the audience had. The question on every viewer and character’s mind after that moment was this: Who is this person?
Luckily, Maggie gave us a quick hint the reveals a surprising amount despite the brevity of her explanation. When Gabriel gives Maggie a concerned look, she quickly says, “Don’t worry, he’s with me.”
This short introduction gives us a lot of information about the mysterious figure.
First off, the fact that Maggie assures her friends that he is working with her shows that he is someone who can, for the most part, be trusted and seen as an ally of the survivors. Not only that, but his impressive combat skills and fancy weapons make him an asset to the communities as they look to rebuild in the aftermath of the Whisperer War.
The decision to have the character keep his mask on and say nothing to any of the survivors that we know indicates that the character is not someone we have ever seen before. The season 10 finale was packed full of dramatic twists and turns, and undoubtedly the character’s identity would have been revealed in the episode if it would make the audience’s jaws drop.
When the preview for the season 10 finale came out and revealed the masked character, fans were going nuts with theories about who they could possibly be. Some of the popular theories claimed that any one of Connie, Maggie, Morgan’s son Duane, or even the mighty Rick Grimes could be behind the mask. Clearly, none of those theories turned out to be true, which may be a good thing in the long run as any of those characters returning in that fashion would have made no sense.
Hopefully, we will learn more about who Maggie’s partner is during the extended episodes at the end of season 10. With confirmation that the episodes will focus on Maggie and the aftermath of the Whisperer War, it is almost certain that the masked man will play a role. For now, we have to settle with the fact that the character is someone new that Maggie trusts.
