The Walking Dead 1016 had one character rise above all adversity to claim MVP

The finale of season 10 of The Walking Dead completely ended an amazing story arc, the whisperers have now been wiped off the face of the earth. While this is an enjoyable moment, it is rather sad to see such an amazing villainous rein come to an end. Alpha and Beta are forever cemented into The Walking Dead hall of fame.

While this finale served as the ending to the Whisperer’s terrifying rule, it freshly starts a new story for our MVP. During this episode, they have more obstacles thrown at them than any other character yet they still pushed through, found their footing, and hugely supported the group.

This week’s MVP is Lydia

Lydia’s origin story is a very heartbreaking one. She had an awful and abusive mother who severely impacted her mental health. She has spent a lot of her life with the Whisperers who willingly lived in abhorrent conditions. Anyone going through the things she has had to endure could have completely broken mentally, turned into a villain, or worse taken their own life. Yet somehow sweet Lydia came out of it all alive and with such a sweet soul.

Ever since joining the main group of survivors, she has been treated horribly, and that continued in this episode. Oceanside members didn’t want her to help with the plan because of where she came from. Yet after Beatrice’s demise, she was there to grab the equipment to help with the mission, something Carol failed to do.

She brainstormed and executed a way to get rid of the herd of walkers for good. While leading the walkers over the edge, she also manages to save Carol who was seconds away from letting the walkers move her over the edge. She did all of that while wearing her mother’s walker mask! That alone had to be a very jarring experience.

This week, the two honorable mentions are Father Gabriel and Magna. Father Gabriel was a character who nearly claimed the MVP crown. Throughout season 10 he has shown tremendous growth and displayed amazing leadership qualities and they certainly were not lacking in 1016. He even nearly, and willingly, laid down his life to protect the children and that took heart and bravery. Watching him stare death in the face gave viewers chills.

Magna is a character that unfortunately has been under major scrutiny for her previous actions. All of that should be tossed aside after her bravery in 1016. Magna could have stayed in the hospital, she had just managed to get out of their horde and now she willingly went back in. In the horde, she nearly broke from her past trauma but with the help of Jerry, she pushed through and help get the supplies to the other side.

Magna is a character who is very strong-willed and speaks her mind. When the group decided to go back in and kill the remaining Whisperers, again she could have said no, and simply left. She didn’t, she went back into the horde and got her battle on, brutally taking out Whisperers to help save everyone. It’s clear now that she cares for everyone, and not solely the group she arrived with.

Now fans must wait for the next 6 episodes, which should be coming out sometime early next year. So much like the last MVP, King Ezekiel, Lydia gets to hold onto the MVP crown for some extra time, and she certainly deserves it. Let’s hope that the communities now embrace her more than ever. Her actions clearly display she is the furthest thing possible from her mother.
