5 WTF moments from The Walking Dead episode 1016

1. Beta’s brutal demise

Coming in hot in the number one position is the nature of how Beta met his demise. While this moment is less shocking, as many fans felt his time had come, the brutal nature of how he died is certainly the very definition of WTF. Unfortunately unlike the comics, viewers didn’t get to see a big fight beforehand and Daryl dismissed his identity instead of discussing it, but the insanity of what happened is mindboggling.

It seems when he was stabbed through the eyes that fans got to see two alternative viewpoints of his death, one that happens in his mind and the one that Daryl and Negan see. In Beta’s version, he rips the knives from his eye sockets and essentially joins his undead family which includes caressing a walker. In Daryl’s, he removes the knives himself and watches while Beta is devoured.

Moving past the extremely metal part of being stabbed in the eyes, there is no doubt that when he is devoured he goes out with a smile! Fans have seen countless people get devoured before in The Walking Dead and each time the person who is in obvious agony screams out and makes the most ungodly noises that leave fans with nightmares.

Yet Beta smiles! (pun intended) That moment alone is worthy of the top spot. It is very clear that death pleases Beta. Being among the dead is what Beta has wanted for years and why he adopted this lifestyle. So death is a release into something more beautiful for him. What is the most fascinating is perhaps the fact that even though the group has defeated Beta and the remaining Whisperers, they never defeated Beta’s true psychotic spirit. That thought might perhaps be the biggest WTF moment from the entire season.
