3. Hope watches her mother die
On monument day the Bennett family got separated. Iris was with their father and Hope was with their mother. Unfortunately, Hope and her mother got put into an extremely dangerous situation. The pregnant woman who viewers saw in an earlier flashback came back, and this time she had a gun.
The flashbacks were already extremely rough scenes to watch, any parents watching are nearly automatically brought to tears seeing these young children have their world turned upside down on the screen. Viewers don’t even have to be parents to cry at the sight of Hope and her mother being held at gunpoint.
During the utter chaos of this tragic day, Hope’s mother is gunned down in front of her and fans have to watch a young Hope scream over her mother’s body as life slowly fades away from her body. The last thing anyone expected little Hope to do was to pick up a gun and fire back.
This scene is so tough all around because it feels like it could have all been prevented if even their tiniest of things had been changed. It’s all-around tragic, and even if fans didn’t shed many tears they were certainly left yelling WTF at their TV screens. Nobody expects a young child to take revenge in such a brutal way. Can viewers blame Hope though? What is the proper way to respond to a situation like this? The answers to any of the questions are not black and white.
