TWD: World Beyond just dropped a big clue about Rick Grimes
As TWD: World Beyond reveals more about the CRM, the worse it looks for Rick Grimes
CRM’s Elizabeth dropped a lot of information on fans in the TWD: World Beyond episode “The Tyger and the Lamb” but it was one casual remark that could reveal loads of information about the fate of Rick Grimes. World Beyond was always meant to be the bridge between The Walking Dead and the Rick Grimes movies, and they are slowly revealing clues about the organization that took Rick.
Fans have long wondered why Rick Grimes hasn’t returned to his family after years and years. His family – Michonne and Judith (he doesn’t know about RJ yet) – is everything to him so after being saved by Anne’s people you might think that he would fight to get back to them.
His absence is puzzling and confounding because it doesn’t add up given what we know about his character, but World Beyond is slowly revealing more about the mysterious group of people who “rescued” him.
In “The Tyger and the Lamb” one of Elizabeth’s soldiers, Barca, comes to her apartment to express that he doesn’t feel good about killing the 9,000 members of the Campus Colony. She claims it was done to protect the over two hundred thousand people who live under CRM’s rule. (FYI, the Commonwealth has roughly 50,000 people so CRM is now the biggest bad of the land)
Barca can’t deal with what they did so she casually says he will be sent to the “CRM Health and Welfare Center” until he is right with it all, and his only option will be to serve in the labor force once he’s right with everything. (He doesn’t see that happening) Barca is led away and then he goes silent, so he could be dead for all we know. However, it’s the detention center that captures our interest.
Is Rick at this facility? We know from the World Beyond pilot that no one knows where CRM is based, and no one comes or goes freely. If Rick is with CRM, he is either stuck there or he is dead. It doesn’t look like there are alternatives.
If Rick is still alive within CRM, then he’s either in a labor force or he is a medical test subject, as suggested by fans who think his “B” rating makes him a test subject.
The reason this makes sense is that Rick wouldn’t be able to let go of his family, especially not after losing Carl. Even if staying away protects them, he’d work to find a way out. If he’s locked inside the CRM Health and Welfare Center, then he has no choice in the matter because he’s a prisoner.
Obviously, this has major repercussions for Michonne, who is on a journey to find Rick after finding clues that he survived the bridge explosion. She’s heading into danger and has no idea, and this could spell disaster if she’s not careful.
TWD: World Beyond is a bridge between The Walking Dead and the Rick Grimes movies, so the show will no doubt continue to deliver clues about Rick’s possible whereabouts. Based on what Elizabeth said it looks like Rick landed in a very dangerous place with some very dangerous people.
TWD: World Beyond airs Sunday nights immediately following new episodes of Fear the Walking Dead at 9pm.
