Review – TWD: World Beyond brings people together in episode 103
By Adam Carlson
Togetherness was expressed in different ways during The Walking Dead: World Beyond episode 103.
On Sunday, The Walking Dead: World Beyond aired their third episode of the series and it was a celebration of bringing people together in different ways. The episode titled “The Tyger and the Lamb” brought some drama but ultimately was about uniting people.
There were some really cool walkers and close calls during the episode, but the developing of characters and mixing their stories is what viewers will likely remember most about season 1 episode 3.
Unsurprisingly, the Blaze of Gory presented a real challenge for the four youngsters even with their plan to draw the walkers to the siren. Watching Hope and Iris get their first walker kills felt like a groundbreaking venture after their struggles in the previous episode. Plus, them coming to terms with their past should allow for bigger stories to develop in the future.
Togetherness by choice
Having Felix and Huck meet up with the four teens creates our core group of adventurers. There is bound to be some conflict about where the group will head and how they will get there, but at least the days of poor fights against the undead should be over.
The protectors may feel obligated to help the kids, but in the end, it was a choice to stick with them. They will attempt to convince them to return to the Campus Colony…but if they do they won’t like what they find.
Togetherness by force
On the other hand, the CRM seems to be forcing togetherness. When a member of the group named Barca questioned Elizabeth about wiping out the Campus Colony, she explained that they did it in order to stay united as a group and protect what they have.
The group needs to be a united force. The soldiers coming to her house to seem to be there to take care of the problem, but how that will be dealt with wasn’t exactly show on-screen for those who like explanations.
World Beyond 103 as a whole
This was an essential episode to establish and confirm the CRM as a threat while bringing the core group of six survivors together for their eventual journey to New York. The mystery surrounding who Silas was beating down and when Elton will learn what happened with his other is already looming over the show, creating plenty of tension the characters may not even know about.
For only being three episodes in, The Walking Dead: World Beyond is setting up for an interesting season with lots of drama and explosive situations coming. The foreshadowing of conflict is strong, but yet the desire to see this young group of survivors getting stronger and mesh is appealing. Episode grade: 7.4/10
