Fear The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Identity Crises
By Liam O'Leary
5) Sometimes, We Need A Secret Identity
Throughout this Survival Rule Of The Week, I’ve been referencing Daniel “Forgetting” who he was, something which was a theme throughout the episode, as Strand, Alicia, and Charlie all tried (And failed) to jog Daniel’s memory, after an attack by Virginia’s rangers left him with amnesia.
…Except…it didn’t.
Daniel, an old hat in the ways of covert operations, has used the attack by Virginia’s goons as the perfect cover to allow him to go anywhere within the Pioneers’ community, and with access to Virginia and her inner circle virtually any time. In a word: It’s brilliant.
In a zombie apocalypse, sometimes, that is the sort of thing you need to do in order to survive. When surrounded by hostiles, being obvious about who and what you are is asking for trouble, and, in order to stay alive (And, maybe, keep your group alive) you need to be sly, and pass yourself off as someone who isn’t a threat to them.
This is not easy, per se. It will require you to constantly be in the lion’s den, wondering if your next move might give you away, but, it’s the best way to figure out what your enemies are doing, and find means to stop them from doing it.
Sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor.
And that’s your Survival Rule Of The Week! Hopefully, you’ve learned that the sort of person you want to be and want to stay in a zombie apocalypse, and who to look you to help you do that.
