It has been a while since Fear TWD fans have seen Victor Strand in his full glory

There was a moment in Fear TWD season 4 when Victor Strand’s secret cache of supplies was discovered. The smooth-talking former con man knew that things could always go sideways so he was making plans, and those plans ended up sending the wrong message. Now he’s back to his full con man ways – sans tuxedo, of course – but this time around he’s pushing away the people he loves most in order to protect them.

It’s hard to forget meeting Victor Strand back in season 1. He was in a holding cell wearing a tuxedo, and he formed an instant connection to Nick Clark. He said he had a foolproof way out of this mess if only he could get out, but what he didn’t realize was that Nick Clark came with the rest of his family and their new friends the Salazars.

Back then, Strand was looking out for Numero Uno, namely, himself. He’d been annoyed that so many people were taking advantage of his hospitality and he saw them as a risk to his survival.

Years later, these same people have become his family and after losing Madison and Nick, Strand knows he needs to do everything in his power to protect Alicia, even if that means pushing her away.

From Alicia’s perspective, Strand is back to his old ways. Dakota revealed that he’d tried to make a deal with Virginia and she didn’t know anything about it. She’s hurt that he’s sending her away, even though she might not realize that it’s for her own good.

What Strand realized at the end of Fear TWD 602 is that in order to protect Alicia, he needs to revert back to the Strand we met in season 1. He needs to make difficult decisions, like the one he made with Sanjay, without worrying about how his actions could be perceived. Alicia is his moral compass, as was Madison before her, and she wouldn’t like some of the moves he’ll need to make to get them to safety.

The problem, of course, is that Alicia doesn’t know why Strand sent her away so even if he returns triumphant from saving the day, the damage could be done.

There’s nothing like seeing Strand in his full glory, though. It will be fun as viewers to see him wheeling and dealing like crazy, though it’s very likely that his actions will have consequences down the line that he’s probably not thinking about.
