Christian Serratos has a new role in a new series. The Walking Dead star will play Selena Quintanilla, the Queen of Tejano Music, in Selena: The Series that will premiere on December 4 on Netflix.

Selena: The Series will consist of two parts, the first released in December 2020 and air nine episodes. The series follows Selena from a child to her rise in the music industry. Selena’s immediate family were all involved in her music career.

Her father,  Abraham, was in a group of singers when he was younger, and music has always been his passion. When he discovers his daughter’s singing ability, he nurtures her talent and instills her siblings’ help as musicians to back her up. The family ends up touring together and rising to stardom together and eventually mourning the tragic loss of Selena when her fan club president and friend murdered her at the tender age of 23.

The synopsis from Netflix describes the series as follows: A coming-of-age story following Selena as she chases her dreams, and the heart-wrenching and life-changing sacrifices she and her family make as they navigate the highs and lows of success, loss, love, and music.

From the first look pictures and the official trailer Serratos has the late singers iconic look down to perfection.

Serratos is joined by Ricardo Antonio Chivia, who plays her father Abraham; her mother, Marcella, is played by Seidy Lopez; and Jesse Posey as her husband, Chris Perez. Her siblings are played by Gabriel Chavarria as her brother, A.B., and Noemi Gonzalez will play her sister, Suzette.

Selena’s sister Suzette served as an executive producer for the series giving it the authenticity it needs to tell the true tale.

In 1997, just two short years after the singer’s death, Jennifer Lopez played Selena in the film version. Lopez also had the singers look down and did an amazing job in her performance.

It is exciting for fans of the singer and the film to have a series that can perhaps devel deeper into Selena’s life and show more of what made her a star. She was loved by her fans and made a name for herself in music and fashion by creating her own clothing line. Selena was the first Latin artist to debut her song Dreaming of You on the Billboard 200 list. Sadly, this accomplishment was earned posthumously.
