Connecting The Walking Dead: ‘The Wrong End Of A Telescope’

3) Is Rick Safe From The Civic Republic’s Darkest Secret?
I almost missed the post-credit scene from this week’s episode of World Beyond…almost. After being informed of it, I waded through about ten minutes of iTunes BS before I could finally watch the scene, but, in it, we learned that the Civic Republic, already one of the sketchiest groups we’ve ever seen in the Walking Dead universe, managed to prove themselves even sketchier by revealing that they are experimenting with walkers, using some of the people loaned to them by other groups as test subjects.
The nature of these tests is not unlike those being performed by Troy Otto at the beginning of season three of Fear The Walking Dead: Testing if the dead respond to specific things, like “psychological stimuli” (Though, what that is, specifically, we don’t know), and environmental changes.
What this immediately made me question was: If this is what they do to the people who they’re in alliance with, then, what the Hell would they do to someone who is their prisoner, someone…like Rick Grimes?
When we last saw Rick, he was being carted away by a CRM helicopter in the company of Anne, who had been trying several times over the previous two seasons to provide the CRM with people in exchange for supplies, this revelation suddenly makes Rick’s prospects far more grim, as it suggests that the Civic Republic may be planning on using Rick for their science experiments.
By this point, Rick has been in their custody for six years. If the Walking Dead movies are set in the universe’s present, then, somehow, Rick has managed to stave off being roped into his captors’ hideous experiments, but…how long can his luck last? Rick isn’t a doctor or a scientist, and therefore, serves no purpose to the Civic Republic’s quest to cure the virus, so…what’s stopping them from just deciding he’s surplus to requirements, and put him on the shortlist for experimentation?
Maybe this is the plot of the movies? Rick (Or, perhaps, Michonne, after finding where Rick’s being held) discovering what the CR’s plan for him is and decides that he has to escape or take the Republic down, come Hell or high water?
Either way, Rick Grimes is not safe.
