5) Family is precious.

At the beginning of this, I said that your actual family…may not make it in the zombie apocalypse. When the outbreak hits, you may lose family members in the chaos and carnage, and they can not be truly replaced. They are, ideally, people who care about you unconditionally, who will do whatever they can to help you, regardless of how well you get along, and will always side with you over an outsider.

And, it is extremely difficult to replace such people once you lose them. It takes a long time of having to survive alongside another person, having your life rely on them and vice versa, to even begin to emulate the relationship you have with your family. I know there are some people out there who might think of their friends in that sort of light, but, if they’re not willing to traverse a zombie-infested city to find you, then…it’s not the same thing.

Either way, should you have such people in your life, you’ll learn pretty quickly that those people are the most precious thing you will have in a zombie apocalypse. No possession, no place, nothing will mean more to you than those people who either are or are considered your family. They are the people whose loss will devastate you, and conversely, if you find them after believing you had lost them, who will pull you from the depths of despair.

This is why you can never betray them, this is why you would do anything for them, and this is why you put them first above everything else, because they will mean more to you than anything you could ever possibly have.

In a zombie apocalypse, family is worth its weight in gold.
