The Walking Dead found its Lucille with none other than Hilarie Burton Morgan

Negan finally has his real-life Lucille as Hilarie Burton Morgan joins The Walking Dead cast in a guest-starring role in one of the six bonus episodes to play Negan’s ill-fated wife, Lucille. Seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Morgan together on the show will be a real treat, and it’s a very smart casting decision.

Comic Book’s Brandon Davis broke the news, which was subsequently confirmed on social media by Burton Morgan herself. Her appearance will take place in one of the bonus episodes, either as a flashback or a full exploration of Negan’s backstory. Fans have been hoping to see some of the stories from Here’s Negan to come to life, and it looks like that could be the case.

TV Negan and Comic Book Negan are rather different characters, so it will be interesting to see if their stories dovetail in any backstory or if the comic books will inspire a new story. In the comics, Negan was in an open marriage having an affair when he learns that his wife’s cancer is getting worse, so he ends things to be with her. She dies as the apocalypse begins, which leads him to name his beloved bat after her.

Casting Burton Morgan is a clever move in the middle of the pandemic, as many shows have been trying to utilize family members for scenes that involve close contact. Knowing Negan’s affection for his wife Lucille in her final days battling cancer, having someone in the family to play the role makes a lot of sense and helps to maintain a safe set.

There is no word on when the six bonus episodes will air, but AMC seems to be giving fans a good idea of what to expect ahead of time so that’s helping to pass the time until they make it to air in early 2021.
