The Walking Dead: Where Father Gabriel stands after season ten

Where does Father Gabriel stand after The Walking Dead season ten finale?
Father Gabriel, who is played by Seth Gilliam on the series The Walking Dead, started as a very weak link. He was spineless and selfish and it didn’t seem like he would survive very long in the post-apocalyptic world he finds himself in. He even went so far as to betray Rick’s group, who brought him into their group and protected and saved his life.
Soon after the outbreak, he allowed his flock to be attacked and killed while he cowardly locked himself in his church to avoid being harmed. He had no idea how to defend himself from a walker attack and it was a surprise he had lasted as long as he had.
That was in season five; fast forward to season ten and a whole new Father Gabriel has taken the place of the coward we are first introduced to. Father Gabriel of season ten is courageous and stands up for what he believes in. He fights right alongside the rest of the group and doesn’t back down.
When the first trailer for the season ten finale of The Walking Dead was released, fans were sure Father Gabriel wouldn’t make it out alive. He had that great scene with the children where he was teaching them the importance of being in the group and then we saw him defending himself against at least three Whisperers and it didn’t look like he was winning that fight.
During the episode, it was easy to see that there was a lot of focus on Father Gabriel taking charge of the situation. He calmed the children down with this story of a group being stronger together. He had the look and actions of a true leader when he was willing to sacrifice his life for the others against the group of Whisperers who were able to break into the building.
Luckily he was saved by Maggie and her masked companion and is alive to go on to season eleven.
What is next for Father Gabriel? Season eleven will be the final for The Walking Dead and Father Gabriel will be an integral part of what happens next. He needs to continue his growth as a leader, continue to protect Rosita and baby Coco at all costs and continue to stand up for what he knows is right.
