It’s time to see more from the start of the apocalypse in The Walking Dead Universe

One of the greatest achievements of The Walking Dead Universe is that the world it built relies largely on brief flashbacks and mentions of what things were like when the world fell apart. Even Fear the Walking Dead moved quickly through the early days to arrive at surviving the fall. But after all of these years, it’s time to spend some time where it all began.

In The Walking Dead’s first episode, Rick Grimes wakes up in a hospital and discovers that he’s in a very different world. When he encounters Morgan and Duane, Rick learns more about the events that led to it all. It’s not hard to imagine what happened, which is one of TWD’s strengths. The writers have made it possible for viewers to piece together a vision of the end of the world using carefully placed clues that allow imaginations to run wild.

However, after all of this time it would be nice to spend a quality chunk of time in the actual beginning of the apocalypse. You might be thinking that Fear TWD did just that, but they didn’t spend enough time there. By the time the Clark family realized what was going on, Operation Cobalt blew up Los Angeles and that was that.

What we’re seeing in TWD: World Beyond is that there was a lot going on in smaller cities and towns, and that would be worth exploring in greater detail. How did those folks from Fear TWD 603 end up in that office building? If you’ve ever watched an episode of The Walking Dead and wondered how people ended up where they ended up, this is what I’m talking about.

I want a series firmly rooted in the early days of the outbreak. It could be an anthology that follows different groups of people in different cities so that we never see them beyond the early days. It could show what has been happening around the globe. Were some areas left untouched? How did the government react in other locations outside the US?

After all of these years, I’m really hoping that we get to spend more time in the beginning. I blame the flashbacks in TWD: World Beyond. I want to see what was going on around the country and around the world, and I want to spend some time there. We know how people eventually manage to survive, but what was it like in New York or Spokane or Anchorage or Paris? These are the stories we haven’t seen yet, and they’re stories worth telling.

What do you think? Would you like to see more stories that follow different cities in the early days of the outbreak? Are there cities you’d like to see more than others? Let us know in the comments!
