Connecting The Walking Dead: ‘Truth Or Dare’
By Liam O'Leary
1) The Outbreak Comes To New York.
As I said earlier, much of this week’s episode focused on Huck’s life during the outbreak, including how she seemed to first hear about it.
During a flashback of Huck partying with her Marine unit at a bar, she sees a news flash from a local news station, informing viewers that the Garnet Medical Center (Which, so I understand, is in Middletown, New York), has had some sort of incident, requiring it go on lockdown and refusing admittance of new patients, being the sixth local hospital to do so. One of the last things Huck hears in the report is that all six hospitals were having “Reports of chaos and confusion“.
Depending on when, exactly, this flashback takes place, this could mean that when Tobias warned Madison Clark back in the pilot episode of Fear The Walking Dead of reports of (Presumably) zombie virus-related activity in five states, New York was one of those five, which, being one of the most populous states in the U.S., is hardly surprising.
In the next flashback, we see Huck and her unit being assigned to search the service tunnels of a nearby city (Which city that is, we never find out, though, judging by the news report, it could be Middletown) for uninfected civilians. During this mission, Huck is the first in her unit to learn that empties can only be killed by destroying the brain, and also that they have a much lower body temperature than living people.
We learn more about Huck’s time at the outbreak, but, that deserves an entry of its own…
