For the The Walking Dead: World Beyond Endlings, Percy represents temptation

When Percy and his uncle showed up on TWD: World Beyond they immediately highlighted how unprepared the Endlings were when it came to dealing with strangers. In the second part of the Problem with Percy series, let’s look at the other danger that Percy represents: Temptation.

It was clear early on that Percy had a thing for Iris. But there’s a bit of a problem with his “thing” for her: We don’t know if it’s real.

Sure, he *said* it was real, and he said that her decision to come back for him was the reason he changed his mind about leaving them for dead. He said he wanted to be a better person because of her…but does he mean it?

It’s hard to tell.

Percy is a born con man, having walked in those circles his entire life. He knows how to read people – especially in the apocalypse – because he’s been running this scam for a long time and it always works.

Iris is an easy target. It’s clear she has no idea when he’s lying even though her sister quickly deduced that his story about the bison and the pelicans couldn’t possibly be true. Even after he took advantage of her, he has been laying the groundwork that he likes her.

In episode 107 he even set up a “date” for Iris after cluing her in that he was interested in her, but that could have been a ruse. While she was at the “Louvre” Uncle Tony was being murdered, Silas was covered in blood and Percy was nowhere to be found.

The temptation of believing that Percy is a good person, and that he could be interested in Iris for altruistic purposes, is a lot to take in. Like the apple in the Garden of Eden, temptation in the world of The Walking Dead should generally be avoided because the most charming people usually end up being some of the most dangerous people you’ll ever meet.
