The Walking Dead: World Beyond’s Huck continues a tradition of double agents

The last time a double agent infiltrated The Walking Dead Universe, our beloved doctor Siddiq lost his life. And that wasn’t the only instance of a double agent in the franchise’s history. Now we learn in episode 108 that Huck (Annet Mahendru) has been a double agent the whole time on The Walking Dead: World Beyond, working for the Civic Republic Military while also playing a role at the Campus Colony. Can she ever be trusted?

When Dante killed Siddiq, he showed no remorse. Sure, there was that brief moment when he hinted that he didn’t really want to do it, but ultimately Alpha’s influence won out and Dante killed Siddiq even though they’d become friends. Father Gabriel killed Dante to avenge Siddiq’s death, so we’ll never know if he could have been rehabilitated, but the general consensus is that he could not be saved.

Huck is different. It’s hard to believe Huck doesn’t care about Felix, Hope, Iris and Elton, though she seems hellbent on not liking Silas.

The only reason that there is hope for Huck is that she already killed her whole unit to save a group of civilians when the apocalypse began. While her mother killed 9,000 people to protect CRM’s resources, Huck killed her entire unit – people close to her – because they were following orders that were just plain wrong. She couldn’t stand by and see those innocent men, women and children killed so she intervened, even though it meant doing something awful.

Huck genuinely cares about the people she’s traveling with, though she is clearly operating under CRM orders. Her history suggests that while she understands what it means to follow orders, she is also guided by her own moral imperative to do the right thing.

Not all double agents turn out to be entirely bad people in The Walking Dead Universe, so there is every reason to think that Huck might not be a villain just because she’s associated with CRM…but only time will tell.
