1. Home Sweet Home – Maggie’s return

The main take away from this episode seems to be Maggie being back with Team Family, and it’s a delight to have Lauren Cohan back on screen, and to have Maggie back where she belongs.

As lovely and touching as Maggie’s reunion with Gabriel and Judith were, for me the heart of the matter is Maggie’s relationship with Carol and Daryl, and that is the reunion I want to see.

These three characters have so much history. They have been there and support each other through so very much, through the deaths of Sophia, Beth and Glenn.

That history and trauma is etched into their interactions, and with the loss of Rick and Michonne we need to feel that connection to the past and each other that their relationship provides.

I also want to see that connection tinged with disconnect. Maggie left at possibly the worst time for the communities, and she doesn’t know the day-to-day horrors Carol, Daryl and the others have experienced. And they, in turn, don’t know her experiences.

She doesn’t know the circumstances that have led to Negan’s rehabilitation, and I want to these those issues worked through with 3 people who are truly family to each other.
