2) Just Because Someone Seems Nice, Doesn’t Mean You Can Trust Them.

If you saw my articles this week on who were the most irredeemable and the most redeemable villains in the first season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, you would have seen how conflicted I was about Dr. Lyla Belshaw, the chief scientist at the Civic Republic’s research facility in Ithaca, New York.

My confusion stems from the fact that, when we first saw her, she just seemed so callous, watching as her friend, Dr. Abbott, was used as a test subject by the Civic Republic, and turned into an empty: Yet, when we saw her in the last two episodes of the season, she seemed like a…normal person. She was having dinner with Hope and Iris’s dad, Leo, and clearly having more than just a professional relationship with him, one she was worried about losing, so much so, she went against her plan to tell Leo that the CRM were bringing Hope to the facility. The whole collection of scenes between her and Leo was almost…cute.

Almost.

I noticed that, when Leo brought up his suspicions about Dr. Abbott’s disappearance, and Will’s disappearance, and just a general distrust of the Civic Republic Military, you could see Lyla give Dr. Bennett a sideways glance, and then decided to not mention Hope’s impending arrival. Seeing that made me wonder of the only thing stopping Leo from suffering the same fate as Dr. Abbott (Or Will, for that matter), was the fact he hadn’t been asking questions yet. After how she reacted to seeing Dr. Abbott used as a test subject, and seeing that sideways look she gave Leo, it didn’t seem that farfetched that she could react similarly to seeing him in the same state.

The point here, is that just because somebody seems like a nice person…doesn’t mean they are. Be very careful who you trust in a zombie apocalypse, because it only takes one time trusting the wrong person, to have it be your last.
