The Walking Dead’s Eleanor Matsuura is joining Netflix comedy Feel Good.
It was announced yesterday that The Walking Dead’s Eleanor Matsuura is joining the second season of Mae Martin’s Feel Good.
Matsuura, who plays Yumiko, will be playing an unspecified role in the new season of the semi-autobiographical comedy drama, created by Canadian stand-up Mae Martin alongside Joe Hampson.
Feel Good follows the developing romantic relationship with George, played by Call the Midwife’s Charlotte Ritchie, and explores the themes of sexual identity, addiction and mental health – but with plenty of laughs.
George has previously only been in heterosexual relationships, and her uncertainty and need to hide her relationship with Mae causes rising troubles between the couple.
The show was originally a co-creation with the UK’s Channel4 and Netflix, but season 2 will be an exclusively Netflix production.
Matsuura is joining the cast alongside other big names such as rapper Eve, Big Bang Theory’s John Ross Bowie, and British TV legend and former Buffy star Anthony Stewart Head.
These well-known faces won’t be lonely as they will be joining the already stellar, transatlantic cast which includes Friend’s Lisa Kudrow as Mae’s mom.
It’s possible Matsuura may play a member of Mae’s Narcotics Anonymous group, where she met her sponsor Maggie, played by Emma Thompson’s acting sister Sophie Thompson (Gosford Park, Emma).
Feel Good recently won an Edinburgh Television Award for Best Comedy and has received huge amounts of critical acclaim for it’s sensitive but funny and touching depiction of hard hitting topics, including mental health issues.
When we last saw Matsuura’s character Yumiko in The Walking Dead, she was with Ezekiel, Eugene and Princess and surrounded by stormtroopers after they travelled to meet up with Eugene’s radio buddy Stephanie.
It seems as though the 4th season 10 bonus episode “Splinter”, airing in March 2021, will return to their predicament, although if the table-read released by AMC for the episode is anything to go by, it’s possible we may not see Yumiko. Princess mentions that Yumiko has been injured and taken away from the others.
However, fans shouldn’t worry for Yumiko’s safety in relation to this announcement. Filming is already well under way for Feel Good season two, whilst The Walking Dead is currently on a production hiatus. Therefor, it’s likely the shows’ filming schedules won’t interfere with each other, and Matsuura can comfortably carry on Yumiko’s journey.
