While TWD Universe is on hiatus, check out the entertaining Queen’s Gambit

Fans of TWD Universe are dreading the hiatus that is before us. We can always re-watch our favorite episodes, but sometimes it is good to step away and check out something new. One show I highly recommend is Queen’s Gambit.

You’ve probably heard of Queen’s Gambit but may not have gotten the opportunity to watch it yet. I highly recommend you take the time to watch it. It is currently Netflix’s top scripted series of all time. This series reached 62 million households in the first 28 days of its release.

This series follows chess prodigy Beth Homan (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her success in the world of chess. Along the way, she struggles with drug and alcohol addictions as well as struggling with personal relationships.

This series is so popular because Taylor-Joy plays Beth with such intensity. Beth is such an inspiration to women everywhere. She earns her place in the male-dominated world of chess and shows that women have a place in that world.

A very talented cast joins Taylor-Joy. Moses Ingram plays Jolene, who befriends Beth in the orphan’s home, and the two form an extraordinary bond.  Marielle Heller plays Alma Wheatley and, in my opinion, is a stand-out in this series, and I wished I could have seen more from her. Mr. Shaibel (Bill Camp) is the janitor who teaches Beth the game of chess. People she encounters in the chess world include Harry Melling as Harry Beltik, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Townes, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Benny Watts and Marcin Dorociński as Vasily Borgov.  Each of these men plays an important part in her life, and the storyline is incredible and draws you in.

This series is based on a novel by Walter Revis by the same name. It was written in 1983 and has now found itself on the New York Times bestseller list.

This series has brought the game of chess back into popularity. Google has reported that the “How to play chess” search has reached a nine-year high. NPR  has reported that chess sets are selling out, and toy giants like Spin Master and Goliath reported an increase in chess set sales had climbed more than 1000%.

This story is intriguing, and the actors do such an outstanding job. I don’t think you will be disappointed in this series.
