The Walking Dead Holiday Special to feature musical numbers with the cast

AMC is ramping up its holiday content with The Walking Dead Holiday Special, which is coming to AMC+ on December 13. The first of its kind special will feature members of the TWD cast leading sing-alongs, and there will also be a special performance from TWD alum Emily Kinney.

It’s not uncommon for TV and movie franchises to have holiday episodes or holiday specials during the holiday season. The Walking Dead is always on hiatus during the holidays so there’s no time for a holiday special (the closest has been a season 9 snowstorm), and it’s kind of hard to pair a zombie drama with the holiday season for obvious reasons.

However, just because Santa and the flesh-eating undead don’t pair well doesn’t mean that the TWD Family can’t have some fun for the holidays. The December 13 TWD Holiday special will feature special sing-alongs with Khary Payton, Cooper Andrews, Cassady McClincy and Eleanor Matsuura. If that doesn’t melt a walker’s heart I don’t know what will.

According to the initial press release, the show will also feature appearances from Melissa McBride, Cailey Fleming, Lauren Ridloff, Josh McDermitt and TWD alum IronE Singleton, with Chris Hardwick serving as the master of ceremonies. Angela Kang and Scott M. Gimple will also be on hand to provide a sneak peek at what’s coming up for the show.

It’s unclear what the exact setup of the show will be, but there will no doubt be joyous merriment to be had by all.

Unfortunately, the TWD Holiday Special is set to air on AMC+ with no word on when it will be available on network TV, if at all. It’s a blow to many fans (myself included) who don’t have AMC+. This is a time of year when we could all use some holiday cheer, so missing out on the event won’t be fun.

Next. Now's a great time to binge Fear TWD, World Beyond. dark

Let’s hope that this is the start of a new tradition for the TWD Family and that we can look forward to many holiday specials to come.
