4) Check Your Blind Spots

Now, let me explain this: I don’t just mean that you should check your physical blind spots (You should), but, I also mean that you should check what I want to call “mental blind spots”, for lack of a better term.

For me, a “mental blind spot”, is something that you need to think about, but, normally, don’t think about.

For example, at the very beginning of Fear, Nick runs away from his infected girlfriend, Gloria, and spends pretty much all of that first episode thinking that what he saw (I.E. Gloria eating two of the other addicts at the church) was either a hallucination brought on by something added to his heroine, or that he was going crazy. This changes once he sees his friend (And drug dealer) Calvin become an infected, as Nick starts listening to the radio looking for reports on the infected, but, something Nick seemed to completely forget about (Something everyone seemed to completely forget about) was that, while they were going about their business over the previous two days, Gloria, and her two victims at the church, had been wandering around Los Angeles, potentially attacking and infecting everyone they came across.

At the beginning of a zombie outbreak, this is the sort of thing you really need to wrap your head around, particularly if you’ve already seen a zombie: That, while you’re off doing whatever, that zombie is roaming around, and, every minute it’s still active, it is, potentially, infecting everyone it runs into, meaning the potential number of zombies you could be dealing with in the near future, is exploding. Once you come to this realization, you’ll understand that you need to make your preparations fast, because your time to do it is quickly running out.

So, remember: Just because you can’t see the zombie outbreak unfolding in front of you…doesn’t mean it isn’t, and, it’s going to keep happening, whether you’re getting prepared for it or not.
