The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal signs new drama deal with Amazon
Former The Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal continues his meteoric rise, since his role as Shane on the show ended in season 2, by signing a new deal with streaming platform Amazon.
In an exclusive, Hollywood Reporter revealed that Bernthal has signed an agreement to create and star in his own show, titled The Bottoms.
The show will be a drama based in Shreveport, Louisiana, in the 90s, and will explore the issues faced by those living, working and surviving in this wild corner of the Deep South.
Topics such as criminality, law enforcement and family structure will be at the heart of the drama, which Bernthal will write alongside Ben Watkins. Watkins is a writer and producer best known for his work on the TV shows Burn Notice and Hand of God.
Reinaldo Marcus Green is also attached to the project, as an executive-producer and director. He is best known for his work on Monsters and Men, which he both wrote and directed.
It is believed that Bernthal has been working on developing this series for the past decade, and it’s not all that’s kept him busy.
He is set to appear in 3 movies in 2021. King Richard, The Many Saints of Newark and Those Who Wish Me Dead, all of which have completed filming. He will also reprise his role as Swaino in the movie adaption of the play Small Engine Repair, which he originated on stage in 2011.
As well as writing the show, Bernthal is set to have a starring role in “The Bottoms” though nothing is yet known about his character, nor has a production or air date been made public yet.
