Tales Of The Walking Dead: A Christmas Wishlist
By Liam O'Leary
5) “The Battle Of The Bog”
For the final entry on my wishlist, I thought I’d reference a little story we learned in last season of Fear The Walking Dead, specifically “The Bog #7”, a battle recounted by Althea between the Texas National Guard, and the U.S. Army sometime near the beginning of the outbreak.
The reason I want this addressed by Tales Of The Walking Dead is because it’s just so mysterious.
When we first learn about it, all we see is some muzzle flashes and hear gunfire, as Al describes the scene, but…that’s it. We get no indication of why it’s happening, where it’s happening, when it’s happening, nothing. Worse still, we only get a few seconds of it before the tape is stopped.
I want to know what happened. For months now, the question of what was going on in that battle has had me confused, as we’d gotten zero hints about any such thing happening anywhere else in the U.S.: Not in the first season of Fear, nor in any flashbacks or hints to the beginning of the outbreak in The Walking Dead.
Now, we did get something that might be a clue as to what Al was recording via World Beyond, but, considering the source, it’s difficult to say one way or the other whether it was the same case in Texas.
That’s why I hope Tales tackles this incident, because it would give us a better idea of what was going on the country as things began to break down, and maybe, why they were breaking down so much. I feel that a story like this is perfect for Tales: Something peripherally involving a character we know, set during the beginning of the apocalypse, and showing us just how terrible those days truly were.
Of course, whether or not we’ll see any of these stories is completely up to Scott Gimple, and what he decides to do. All I can do is hope that he’s as curious about these stories, and seeing them play out, as I am.
What do you guys think? Are there any other stories you would like to see addressed in Tales Of The Walking Dead? Something from The Walking Dead? Fear? Maybe a character we’ve never seen or heard of before? Let me know? And, if you want to hear my ideas about surviving a zombie apocalypse in the real world, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse! You can also find it at Amazon here, and on iTunes here! It would make a great Christmas present!
