The Walking Dead holiday: What to put in Rick’s stocking
If The Walking Dead characters received stockings, what would you give Rick?
It’s hard to carry over traditions from before the apocalypse into the post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead. Though the holidays might be remembered by those who experienced them, it doesn’t mean we can’t have fun thinking up ways to mix traditions and TWD. So if you were going to give a Christmas stocking to Rick Grimes, what would be in it?
Poor Rick. He’s been gone a long time, whisked off in a helicopter after being injured defending his friends and family at the bridge. Now that we know he’s tucked away somewhere with the Civic Republic Military (CRM, or the “helicopter people”), there are a few things that he could probably use to help him out, wherever he is.
A Reminder of His Family
When Michonne found Rick’s boots and the cell phone with the engraved picture of herself with Judith, there’s very little question that it had been meant as a reminder of what Rick was fighting for.
It would be nice to deliver a more updated reminder of Rick’s family to him. While it would be hard for him to know that he had missed out on so much, it could also give him a reason to keep fighting.
An Escape Route
It’s really hard to imagine that Rick hasn’t found a way to escape the grips of the CRM after all this time, but that’s also a testament to CRM’s ability to control the people within their walls.
The only way Rick might make it out of the CRM is with a little help from Santa. A map or an escape route would be pretty handy.
His Colt Python
Naturally, there’s no way Rick can have his Colt Python back right now because Judith has it. (And she’s a crack shot, just ask Negan and Beta) But having a weapon could give Rick an advantage, wherever he is, and it might help him find a way out.

At some point in the future Rick’s story will play out in the movies that AMC has been talking about for ages, and fans will learn what he has been up to in the years since he left Alexandria. For now, it’s fun to imagine what he might need in his Christmas stocking, and we hope these items could prove useful to him, wherever he might be.
